Young families cannot afford to stay. Seniors cannot afford to leave. The result is a district that is slowly being priced against itself. Richard will not accept that as inevitable.
Richard will vote to:
- Expand programs that help seniors age in place, including home repair assistance and tax relief tied to long-term residency.
- Support workforce housing that serves teachers, nurses, farmers, and tradespeople. Not luxury second homes.
- Reform zoning and permitting to let towns add modest, responsible housing without bulldozing what makes them worth living in.
- Go after short-term rental abuse where it is pulling year-round housing off the market.
What this means for District 53
We’ve been working with the Maine Labor Climate Council to enact rent stabilization for the residents of mobile home parks in Dresden. This effort should result in the issue appearing before town voters this fall. Maintaining affordable housing and preserving our existing housing stock remains a key part of our adequately addressing our housing shortage
